Artist Alyssa Rothwell
Biography
Alyssa Rothwell is an artist-animator based in Sydney, working with a range of digital and traditional fine art media to create animated artworks. Her work has appeared in many exhibitions and prizes. ‘Three Mile Creek’ represented the Australia-Pacific Region at the New Talent Pavilion, MILIA ’98 (France); the Australian Film Commission-funded ‘Pretty Aprons’ was presented at the Pompidou Centre, Paris, 2000. She created animation and digital backdrops for three Theatre of Image productions (2005-2008) staged at the Seymour Centre, Sydney Theatre and the Power Sydney House Museum. 'Joyride' (2012) an animation created in response to the orchestral composition ‘Ether Etude’ screened at Melbourne International Animation Festival and was selected as a finalist for the Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize and Exhibition, 2013. She staged three solo exhibitions in Sydney of works on paper and related animated work in 2012, 2016 and 2017, and is currently making animations in collaboration with two Australian music composers. Rothwell is a Media Production Lecturer at the School of Arts & Media, UNSW.
